Lawrence Thomas Callahan, 52

Georgetown — Lawrence T. Callahan, 52, of Georgetown, passed away on October 22 at Kaplan Family Hospice House after a courageous battle with ALS.

Larry was born on December 4, 1959, and grew up in Lynn. He graduated from Wentworth Institute of Technology with a degree in Building Construction. Throughout his career as a carpenter and woodworker, he loved renovating his home and building furniture and unique gifts for members of his family.

Larry enjoyed vacations in Florida and boating, fishing and golfing with family and friends. He enjoyed watching his children grow and attended and helped out with many of their sporting events and community activities. Larry was known for his big smile, his warm hugs, his kind words, and great sense of humor. He will be dearly missed.

Larry was a devoted and loving husband to Carrie Callahan. He was a caring and supportive father to Ryan and Lindsay Callahan. He is also survived by his mother, Mary Gauthier; his brother, Tom and wife Robin; and his sister, Debbie Callahan and Paula Parsons of Gloucester. He also leaves his in-laws, Barbara and Richard Pyburn of Danvers; his sister-in-law, Judy Mittica and her husband Gerry of Springfield, Vt.; and five nieces and nephews. Larry was the son of the late Thomas Callahan. Larry warmly loved his entire family and the many dear friends whom he sadly leaves behind.

During his illness, Larry was an inspiration to everyone he touched. He maintained a positive attitude and was happy to participate in several clinical trials as part of ALS research. Carrie and her family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at the ALS Clinic at Massachusetts General Hospital, Compassionate Care ALS, and the Kaplan Family Hospice House.

ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Merton E. Roberts Jr and Conte Funeral Home, 14 Pleasant Street, Georgetown. A quiet end-of-life celebration will be held with family members and friends at a later date. To leave online condolences, please visit
