Marilyn McGuire, 87

Sacramento, CA — Marilyn McGuire, who was born on September 21, 1926, died in Roseville, Calif., on September 29, 2013. Marilyn was the beloved wife of Matthew McGuire, and the loving and adored mother of Michael McGuire (Lita), Patrick McGuire (Kathryn), Dr. Timothy McGuire (Cindy), Marilyn McGuire-Sessions (Hal), Kevin McGuire (Shum), Mary Lockhart (Richard), and Megan McGuire Burgess (Jeremy); loving grandmother to 18 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Shirley and Carol; and one brother, Bruce. Marilyn was preceded in death by her mother, Mary; her father, Allen; three sisters, Judy, Patricia and Helen; and two brothers, Allen and David.

She graduated from Gloucester High School in 1944, and married Matthew in1946. For 20 years, she was a military wife. She served two tours in Germany, and was stationed in several states throughout the country.

After retirement from the military, she resided with her family in the Sacramento, area until her death. She was a life time member of the American Ex-Prisoner of War organization. Marilyn was a voracious reader and crossword buff, a talented poet, a shining example, and a bright light in this world.

ARRANGEMENTS: Lombard & Co. is providing the funeral arrangements. Friends are welcome to attend a celebration of Marilyn's life at Lombard’s, 1550 Fulton Avenue, Sacramento, beginning at 10 a.m., on Friday, October 4. Burial will be conducted at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Salvation Army, 3755 North Freeway Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95834.

    Rockport, MA — John Lindsley Crocker, 83, of Rockport, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 5, 2014. John was born in Utica, N.Y., on February 16, 1931, and was the son of the late Lindsley H. and Irene Florence (Bence) Crocker. He had attended Canisius College in Buffalo, N.Y., before entering the Trappist Monastery, St. Joseph’s Abbey, in Spencer, Mass. He received a master's degree from Emanuel College in Boston, in Art Therapy and Centering Prayer. John was an artist, who was gifted in painting, photography, poetry and writing. He was a teacher of Centering Prayer and a spiritual director. He spent his last years painting and teaching Centering Prayer. He is survived by his sister, Margot Byrnes and her husband, David, of Miami, Fla., and their children, Tammy Kinsey, Scott, John, and Kevin Byrnes; sister, Sue Lee of Sebastian, Fla., and her children, Debbie Rafuls, Andrew and Craig Lee, and Denise Wagner; a brother-in-law, Gerald Schoemick of Kenmore, N.Y. and his children, John Schoemick and Kerry Killian; also several grand-nieces and grand-nephews; as well as many friends. He was predeceased by his beloved companion, Dorothy Teko; sister, Linda Schoemick; nephew, Martin Schoemick; and grand-nephew, Daniel Byrnes.

    Manchester, MA — Robert A. Jermain, a longtime resident of Manchester, Mass., passed away recently at the age of 89. Bob trained as a naval aviator during WWII, and graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in chemical engineering. He later earned a master's degree in business from Boston University. He was a chemical engineer by trade, and after working for several large firms, he started and managed his own business, Applied Technology, as a manufacturer’s rep for scientific equipment. Later in life, he taught science and mathematics at the North Shore Community College. He was an avid tennis player, sailor and musician, and had a wide variety of other interests, including all things mechanical and electrical engineering-related, home restoration and boat building.

He was the second son of four children of Constance Templeton Rhinelander and Frederic William Rhinelander, and is survived by a sister, Mary McCarl and brothers, Frederic and David Rhinelander.
