MANCHESTER-BY-THE-SEA — Bernadette Marie (O’Donnell) Donoghue, 87, beloved wife of the late Edmund Donoghue, passed away Saturday, October 19, at her home surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Daughter of the late Thomas and Julia (Hegarty) O’Donnell, she grew up in Medford, attended Medford High School and graduated from Framingham State Teacher’s College. Bernadette taught in Boston until her marriage and resumed her career in Gloucester after raising her children. She enjoyed sewing and was a gifted seamstress.More than anything, she loved being with her family, especially spending time with her beloved grandchildren and great-granddaughter. She gave her family many happy memories to cherish.
She is survived by her six children, John Donoghue of Manchester, Ann Fuhrman and her husband, James, of Bellingham, Eileen Shaughnessy and her husband, Michael, of Sandwich, Mary Lilley and her husband, Stephen, of Woodbridge, Conn., Matthew Donoghue of New York, and Andrew Donoghue and his wife, Lihui, of Berlin; three sisters, Mary Schwartz and her husband, Francis, of San Mateo, Calif., Regina Frasier of Leominster, and Sheila Leary and her husband, Burt, of Harwichport; 13 grandchildren, Bridget, Kyle, Christopher, Michael, Brian, John, Colleen, Sean, Ian, Brenna, Arianne, Rachel, and Michelle; and one great-grandchild, Brittany.
ARRANGEMENTS: A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Parish, 62 School Street, Manchester, on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be at the Campbell-Lee, Moody Russell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, North Beverly, on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Manchester.
