Gloucester, MA — Katherine M. (Arges) Rich, 93, of Gloucester, wife of the late William J. Rich, passed away on Sunday evening, October 20, 2013, at the Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born in Gloucester on October 10, 1920, daughter of the late Alexander and Clytie (Parsons) Arges.
Katherine was a graduate of Gloucester High School, Class of 1938 and also of Salem Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1941, receiving her degree as a Registered Nurse.
She worked for Addison Gilbert Hospital as a supervisor from 1941 to 1962, then at Salem Hospital as a relief supervisor from 1962 to 1963, and later at the Putney School in Vermont as the head nurse from 1963 until her retirement in 1982.
Katherine was a member of the American Nursing Association, Addison Gilbert Hospital Alumnae Association and the Salem Hospital Nurses Association.
She is survived by two sons, Wayne Rich and Brian Rich, both of Gloucester; three grandchildren, Gregory Rich, Patrick Rich, and Stephanie Rich.
Katherine was predeceased by a special friend, Gertrude MacInnis.
ARRANGEMENTS: A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
There will be no visiting hours and the burial will be private.
