Medford — Kevin J. Kavanagh, of Medford, lately of Agassiz Street in Cambridge, died on September 18 at Brigham and Women's hospital. Born on December 16, 1947 in Brooklyn, N.Y., Kevin was raised in Mamaroneck, N.Y. A graduate of Archbishop Stepinac High School in White Plains ('65) and LeMoyne College in Syracuse ('69), Kevin worked for Texaco Inc. in NYC and Virginia, and taught high school for a year in Atlanta before setting out for Alaska in the mid '70's. He ended up in Anchorage where he ran a McDonald's franchise and worked for The Alaska Times. Kevin enjoyed the unique natural environment of the last American frontier and the free Alaskan life style. As his parents reached into their seventies and in order to be nearer to them, he moved back to the lower forty-eight. He stayed for a time with his sister in Gloucester before he settled in Cambridge. Kevin held several positions until he went to work at Harvard in the Gutman Library. He had worked for the university for 14 years when down-sizing and health issues forced him to retire. He will be sorely missed by his sister, Eileen and her husband, Larry (Gloucester); brothers, Richard, his wife, Dianne (New Lennox, Ill.), Peter (Syracuse, N.Y.) and Brian, his wife Wynne (West Cornwall, Conn.), as well as 11 nieces and nephews, 13 great nieces and great nephews and numerous cousins and dear friends.
