Gloucester — Darlene (Malmi) Coakley, 64, wife of Robert J. Coakley, of Andrews Street, Gloucester, died September 21st, 2012 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, after a lengthy illness.
She was born in Gloucester, February 7, 1948, daughter of the late John and Eleanor (Cavender) Malmi. Mrs. Coakley was a graduate of Gloucester High School, Class of 1965, and attended Northeastern University and Wagner College, Staten Island, N.Y.
For 14 years, she worked as a teacher’s assistant in the Gloucester School system, retiring in 2003. She had previously worked at The Court Resource Program in Boston and as a real estate agent. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Lanesville, serving on The Church Council and teaching Sunday School.
In addition to her husband of 37 years, she was the devoted mother of Jonathan Coakley of Clifton, N.J. and Captain Joshua Coakley (USAF) and his wife Taryn of Seattle, Wash. She also leaves behind a sister, Elaine Naves of Gloucester, and two nephews, Donald Morgan and his wife Jocelyn of Concord, Calif. and John Morgan of Gloucester; a grand-nephew and a grand-niece along with many cousins and treasured friends.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral service will be held in St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1123 Washington Street, Gloucester on Wednesday, September 26 at 1 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
Visiting hours in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester will be held on Tuesday, September 25, from 4 – 8 p.m.
After cremation, disposition of her ashes will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Brigham and Women’s Hospital (for neurological research), in care of Development Office, 116 Huntington Avenue, 5th Floor, Boston, MA 02116 or to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1123 Washington St., Gloucester, MA 01930.
