Rockport, MA — John P. “Jack” Ryan, 84, of Rockport, beloved husband of Fay G. (Hodgkins) Ryan, passed away on Monday, August 19, 2013, at his home.
Jack was born in Arlington, Mass., on March 6, 1929, and was the son of the late Patrick J. Ryan and Catherine E. (McNaney) Ryan.
He was a graduate of St. Ann’s High School, Class of 1946, and a graduate of Holy Cross College, Class of 1952. He also had served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1946 to 1948.
Jack had worked for General Electric as a manager for 35 years. During that time, he worked at GE plants in New York, New Jersey, Germany, California, and finally in Connecticut, before retiring in 1989.
In his spare time, Jack was an avid golfer.
In addition to his wife, Fay, of 63 years, he is survived by his son, Patrick B. Ryan and his wife, Mary, of Santa Clara, Calif.; his daughter, Pamela R. Gorian and her husband, Mark, of Danbury, Conn.; his grandchildren, Kelly, Kevin, Krissy, Kit, Ryne, Chatu, Brooke, and their spouses; nine great-grandchildren; his brother, William Ryan and his wife, Patricia, of Avon, Conn.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers, James, Richard, Thomas and Robert Ryan.
ARRANGEMENTS: A Memorial Mass will be celebrated in St. Joachim’s Church, Rockport, on Friday, August 23, at 10:30 a.m. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend.
The burial will be held in Beech Grove Cemetery, Rockport, following the Mass. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701, or at www.cancer.org.
