Gloucester — Phyllis A. (Oliver) Moore, 84, died Wednesday afternoon, October 30, 2013, at the Seacoast Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of the late Richard F. Moore, who died in March of 1999.
Born in Rockport on March 5, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Allen F. and Dorothy L. (Pratt) Oliver. As an Army wife, she resided in Georgia, North Carolina, Germany and Texas.
Upon his retirement, she and Dick traveled extensively throughout the United States including Hawaii. They had also visited the Bahamas and Aruba. She had taught Sunday school for St. Ann’s Church and was an active volunteer at their Christmas bazaar.
She loved to play bingo, knit, crochet and shop and had an extensive doll collection. Phyllis thoroughly enjoyed her weekly get-togethers with “the club girls” and was proud to be their honorary Italian. A loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she will be greatly missed.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Richard F., Jr. and Martha (Cominelli) Moore and Gary L. Moore; grandchildren, Ricky Moore and Mindy Moore; and their mother, MaryEllen McLeod; granddaughters, Katelyn Moore and Jennifer, wife of Bill Johnson; and their children, Isabelle, Sophia and Liam Johnson; two sisters, Mildred Fletcher and Constance, wife of Patrick Curry and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by two brothers, Allen Oliver, Jr. and James Oliver and her brother-in-law, Robert Fletcher.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday morning in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester at 11 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 4 - 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to Day by Day Adult Care, 4R Blackburn Center, Gloucester, MA 01930. Interment will be held in the Calvary Cemetery.
