Sarasota, FL — Ingvar E. Tornberg, 81, of Sarasota, passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2012 at Sarasota Memorial Hospital.
Born in Chicago IL on July 12, 1930 to the late Henning & Linnea Tornberg, he graduated from Ridgewood, NJ High School in 1949 and from Cornell University in 1954.
Ingvar, along with G. Wilbur Tracey and Charles Schott co-founded Gloucester Engineering Co., Inc. in 1961. In 1985 he led a group of investors to purchase Jiffy Packaging, moving the headquarters to Beverly MA in 1986. Jiffy was sold to Sealed Air Corporation in 1987. In 1988 Ingvar purchased an old building in Philadelphia PA, along with his son Gustaf, named the company Penn Treaty Park Place, and proceeded to rehab the building into office space.
In addition to his wife, Lynn, with whom he shared 42 years of marriage, he is survived by his son K. Gustaf Tornberg and his wife, Arline and their children Leif, Britta and Gunther of Moorestown NJ; his son, Anders Tornberg and his wife, Melanie and their children Artemis and Thor of South Berwick ME; and his daughter, AnnaLisa Tornberg and her son Gunner of Annisquam MA.
He was predeceased by his sister, Ingrid VanTrease of W. Frankfurt, IL.
ARRANGEMENTS: There will be a "Celebration of His Life" to be held at a later date.
