Jerome Lovasco, 83


Gloucester — Jerome Lovasco, 83, of Gloucester, passed away on Sunday morning, December 9, 2012, at the Addison Gilbert Hospital.

Born in Gloucester on November 14, 1929, he was the son of the late Sebastian and Agatha (Alvernia) Lovasco.

Jerry had attended Gloucester schools and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

As a young man, he worked on the waterfront as a lumper and then was a bartender at Fats Wall’s on the west end of Main Street. Jerry later worked as a custodian at several middle schools in Gloucester before retiring.

In his spare time, he enjoyed taking trips with his friends to Foxwoods and Twin River Casinos. He was an avid reader and enjoyed watching television. Jerry was a long time member of the Capt. Lester S. Wass Post 3 Gloucester American Legion.

He is survived by his loving sister, Catherine Perry, wife of the late, Louis Perry of Gloucester; devoted niece Catherine Porter and husband, Bill of Gloucester; many nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law Lois Lovasco and Josephine Lovasco of Gloucester.

He was predeceased by his siblings, Peter Lovasco and wife, Dora, Michael Lovasco and wife, Lena, Salvatore, Sebastian, Joseph “Tony”, Anna, Rose, Josephine and Anthony Lovasco and Grace McDonald and husband William.

ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral will be held from the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester, on Wednesday, December 12 at 9:45 a.m. followed by a funeral mass in St. Ann’s Church on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. The burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery.
