Elizabeth J. “Betty” (Young) Gannett, 80, of Manchester-by-the-Sea, passed away Thursday morning, February 16, 2012, at the Beverly Hospital with her family by her side. She was the loving wife of Walter B. Gannett for 63 years.
Born in Manchester-by-the-Sea on April 30, 1931, she was the daughter of the late John L. and Lillian L. (Cline) Young.
Betty was a graduate of Manchester High School and was then married to Walter.
She worked hard, raising her seven children, and always gave of herself to ensure they were cared for. Betty enjoyed cooking for family and friends, but her specialty was baking. She also enjoyed tending to her garden.
Betty loved the company of her children and grandchildren and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her husband Walter, she is survived by her children, Dennis B. Gannett of Essex, Daniel G. Gannett and wife Lydia of Manchester, the late David P. Gannett, Deborah Stevens and fiancé John Morrison of Manchester, Diana G. Bishop and husband Jay of Manchester, Donna M. Willis and husband Karl of Bay Village, Ohio, Dean R. Gannett of Manchester; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law Kathy Boudreau and husband Mark of Gloucester.
She was predeceased by her sister Virginia Pegden of Wills, Wyo.
ARRANGEMENTS: A memorial Mass will be celebrated in Sacred Heart Church, Manchester, on Saturday, February 25th at 10 a.m. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to the Sacred Heart Church, 60 School St., Manchester, MA 01944.
