Lynnfield — Mr. A. James Lynch, age 85 years, of Lynnfield, formerly of Rockport and Lynn, died peacefully at Kaplan Family House in Danvers, after a brief illness. He was the husband of Patricia A. (Newhall) Lynch, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage.
Born in Marblehead, he was the son of the late Arthur F. and Louise M. (Pierce) Lynch. Jim graduated from St. Mary’s High School, Class of 1945. After graduating from high school he joined the US Navy, and served aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Philippine Sea (CV-47). He journeyed to the South Pole under the command of Admiral Richard E. Byrd on the expedition known as “Operation High Jump.” After being discharged from the navy he studied Business Administration at Boston University.
Jim started his real estate career as an apprentice with Estate Realty, and later partnered with Alfred P. Luise in the firm of Luise and Lynch, located above the Lincoln Co-Operative Bank in Central Square for several years. He then went out on his own and formed the present firm of A. James Lynch Real Estate and Insurance in Wyoma Squiare, where he served as President until retiring in 1990.
He served as a member of the Board of Directors and chairman of the Finance Committee of the Equitable Co-Operative Bank, was a director of the
Credit Bureau of Greater Lynn, Inc., a former director and chairman of the Legislative Committee of the Greater Salem Board of Realtors, chairman of the Lynn Industrial Development Finance Authority, treasurer of the St. Vincent DePaul Society of Our Lady of the Assumption in Lynnfield, a former officer and director of Valladolid Council, Knights of Columbus, a former director of the Lynn Area Chamber of Commerce, and served as a member of the Mass Electric Consumer Council. He was also active in the Friendly Knights of St. Patrick, and was Irishman of the Year.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at his camp on Lake Sunapee and his home in Rockport, where they all enjoyed skiing, water skiing and boating.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son Thomas J. Lynch of Lynn, two daughters, Maura Lynch and her partner Pamela Adams of Lynnfield and Karen Lang of Lynnfield; two grandchildren Max and Grant Lang of Lynnfield; two brothers, Owen and his wife, Ann, of Lynnfield, Edward and his wife, Elizabeth Cullinan of Lynn, one sister, Marie Wall and her husband, John, of Marblehead Jim is also survived by several nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be from the Parker Funeral Home on Monday at 10 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Church at 11 AM to which relatives and friends are invited. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Visiting hours are at the Parker Funeral Home 35 Franklin St. Lynn on Sunday from 1 to 5 PM.
