Barbara (Shute) Friberg, 97

Barbara (Shute) Friberg, 97, died Christmas morning in the Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born in Gloucester on July 17, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Colonel Frank Henry and Addie (Burnham) Shute. A graduate of the Catherine Gibbs School, Mrs. Friberg was employed as executive secretary to the Dean of Endicott College for many years. She kept meticulous archives of her time at the school.

For 15 years before her retirement, Mrs. Friberg served the Gloucester Unitarian Universalist Church as administrator. She was a life-long member of the church.

She is survived by her son, Carl Friberg, Jr. She was also predeceased by her former husband, Carl Friberg.

ARRANGEMENTS: In keeping with her wishes, prayers of committal will be held privately in Oak Grove Cemetery. Bill is preceded in death by his brother, Marlo Mamede, who was lost at sea, his father, William F. Mamede of San Diego, CA. and his stepfather. Ralph K. Brown of Gloucester, MA.
