Essex — Phyllis Ann Downs, 90, of Cable Gardens, Ipswich and formerly of Walnut Park, Essex, died November 29, 2012 in the Seacoast Rehabilitation Center, Gloucester following her brief illness. Born in Winchester July 26, 1922 daughter of the late Edward F. and Phyllis (Cook) Downs, she was raised in Reading, a 1939 graduate of Reading public schools and of the Bryant Stratton School of Business. For twenty-five or more years she was employed as a secretary at the former Pilgrim Trust Bank in Boston. She was later employed as the office manager at her brother Howard Downs’ Northeast Ford Engines in Ipswich from which she retired in 1998.
She was a world traveler. Notable travels included early visits to Cuba and dining on the Andrea Doria. She was also an avid quilter and enjoyed painting and related home crafts.
She is survived by a brother Edward A. Downs of Magnolia and many nephews and nieces including Jeffrey Downs of N. Reading and Gregory Downs of Newbury. She was the sister of the late Frances Caparo formerly of Medford, Alice Rudolph formerly of Hampton, NH and Esther Moody formerly of Wells Beach, ME.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral Service will be held 10 AM Saturday, December 1, 2012 in the Forest Glen Cemetery, Forest Glen Rd., Reading. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed.
