George N. Mackey Jr., 89


Rockport, MA — George N. “Nick” Mackey Jr., 89, of Rockport, passed away on Monday, February 18, 2013 at the Den-Mar Rehabilitation and Nursing Center following a brief illness.

He was born in Bethlehem, PA on June 19, 1923, son of the late George N. and Margaret K. (Koczett) Mackey.

He attended Rockport High School and worked for the Cape Ann Tool Company during the War. He later had his own carpentry business.

George was known to be a tinkerer and a jack of all trades who also enjoyed collecting antique machinery and holding court at the Rockport Market with his many friends including Pete, Fay and Dave.

He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps and a former Redman.

He is survived by his brother, Paul E. Mackey of Rockport; several nieces and nephews; dear friends, Frances Atwood, Caroline Cannell, Leslie Burgess, Jacob Cash and Bob and Madeline Greenleaf all of Maine.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Dorothy Muise and Carolyn Woodbury.

ARRANGEMENTS: A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by the Burgess and Mackey Funeral Home, 201 Main Street, Rockport.
