James Theodore Harries, Jr.
Danvers — James Theodore Harries, Jr., Ph.D. of Gloucester, Mass., passed away on Dec. 18, 2012. He was born in Buffalo, N.Y., on June 25, 1930, the son of the late James Theodore Harries Sr. and Lula Willer Harries, brother of the late Gwendolyn Harries, and husband of 33 years of the late Karen Louise Davies. He will be missed by his 2nd wife, Roswitha Huntley; stepson, Walter Billings, wife, Della Sue; and grandson, Jack; his stepdaughter, Christine; and grandson, Dakota; and his brother-in-law, John Davies, wife, Lorna; and niece, Christina.Continued ...
Jerome Linus Sutherland, 79
Gloucester and Bedford, MA — Jerome Linus Sutherland, 79, of Gloucester and Bedford, passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2013, in the West Roxbury VA Hospital. Jerome was born in Gloucester, Mass., on September 10, 1934, the son of the late Alphonso and Mildred (Perry) Sutherland. He graduated from St. Ann’s High School, Class of 1952, magna cum laude. While at St. Ann’s he captained the basketball team, a sport he loved throughout his life. Jerry enlisted in the United States Air Force in June of 1952 and was assigned with Hq Tactical Air Command. He received the National Defense Service Medal during his two years of service. Jerry had worked on security documents during his tour in the Korean Conflict. He was temporarily disabled in August of 1954 and later retired in June of 1959. He resided in Gloucester for most of his life and worked at the Maplewood Sweet Shop and Uncle Moe’s. He enjoyed sports and was an avid Boston sports fan. He also took up lobstering and deer hunting. Jerry had taken care of his mother at that time and later his brother, Thomas. He was often seen walking his miniature poodle, Tiny. Though Jerry was big in stature, he was no doubt a man of gentleness. He was happy with the simple pleasures of life, even up until his death. Chocolate ice cream and cake! Jerry is survived by his brothers, Vincent A. Sutherland and his wife, June, of Gloucester, Brother Raphael “O” Carmolite (John Sutherland) of Illinois; sisters, Carole Sears of Gloucester, Mary J. Johnson of Magnolia, Ellen Swanson of Hamilton; niece and caregiver, Dawn Carpenter and her husband, Walter, of Gloucester and 27 nieces, nephews and many cousins. He was predeceased by his sister, Gertrude Perrine and brothers, Raymond and Thomas Sutherland.Continued ...

Gloucester — Allen B. Pollock, 63, son of Kenneth and Hazel (Andrews) Pollock, passed away on August 30, 2013. He was an avid fisherman who fished on various boats out of Gloucester. He was also often seen fishing off the docks of the state fish pier and the rocks of the back shore. Allen is survived by three children, Kasey Eklund, wife of Erik, and their four children, Caleb, Astrid, Molly, and Hattie, all of Lovell, Maine, Ella Owen and her son, Skyeler, of Albuquerque, N.M., and Joseph Pollock and his wife, Beth (Dowse) of Beverly, Mass. He is also survived by three stepchildren, Jodi Sharac and her companion, Robert Palladino, and her son, Joseph Lopes, Kelly Sharac, and Salvatore Parisi and his companion, Danielle Sylvester, all of Gloucester.
