Charles A. Dickman, 88
Lowell, MA — Charles Alfred Dickman, 88, son of John and Mildred Dickman of Gloucester, born June 6, 1925, passed away October 18, 2013, after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his wife, Maryline and his two daughters, Inga Nuccio and Heidi Taylor. Also survived by Inga's husband, Paul and children, Zachary and Christopher, from Westford, MA; Heidi's husband, Don and their children, Luke and Hannah from Los Alamos, NM. He was predeceased by his first wife, Ursula and his twin brother, John. Charlie was a 1943 graduate of Gloucester High School and a 1945 graduate of the Maine Maritime Academy. He served as a second lieutenant in the Coast Guard in World War II. He spent the rest of his career as Captain of Merchant Marine vessels around the world. He was also a proud member of the Boston Marine Society. He was an avid ham radio operator, call number W1MZ, keeping in touch with other operators around the world. Charlie's grandfather, Alfred "Centennial" Johnson, sailed alone in a dory from Gloucester to Wales in 60 days in 1876. And the dory now resides in the Cape Ann museum.Continued ...

John Austin Carter, 77
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK — John A. Carter or “Jack” as he was known to family and friends left this earth on Thursday, October 10, 2013, at the Veterans Hospital in Norman, Oklahoma at the age of 77. Jack was born to Austin Lelsie and Margaret Jane (MacEachern) Carter on May 1, 1936, in Gloucester, Massachusetts. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, retiring after 20 years of service. After his military career he continued his civil service career in Bio Environmental Engineering at Tinker and retired after 20 plus years. Jack loved to golf and enjoyed sailing, taking vacations with his family, and OU football. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, George and Charles Carter; and foster brothers, Joseph Muise, John and Vincent Boyle. Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Joyce M. Carter and their three adored children, John “Jay” Carter II (Regina), Jolie Carter (Deb), and Jason Carter; sister, Ann Lander (Francis); and was the proud grandfather to ten grandchildren, Amanda, Keegan, James, Jackson, Haylie, Kaden, Kelcie, Zach, Kimberly, and the youngest Boston; and a host of nieces and nephews.
