To the editor:
After serving as a career civil servant and federal government executive for 40 years, and as a volunteer in Rockport government for more than ten, I understand what a rare thing it is to find a government employee who really knows his or her job and all that it requires.
Pat Brown is one of those rare persons.
The town clerk's job is particularly demanding. In addition to a thorough understanding of the many laws and procedures that govern how the town's business must be done and duly recorded, the position also carries the responsibility for conducting national, state and local elections and certifying the results.
This understanding cannot be learned in a short period of time. Pat has the skills, the experience, the knowledge and the established relationships throughout our state that make her a highly effective town clerk today and will make her an outstanding one in the years to come.
It is rarer still to find a person who is honest, hard-working, co-operative and pleasant, one who goes that extra mile to help others.
When you find such persons, it is in the whole town's interest to retain their services and do everything possible to provide support.
Pat Brown is such a person and I urge you to vote for her as town clerk in the coming election. I will.
