To The Editor:
We cannot afford a Supreme Court that has decided to give away our elections to the highest bidders, bidders whose identities remain anonymous.
We cannot afford foreign investors in our political campaign; thanks to both the Supreme Court and all the Republicans in the Senate we’ll never know the sources of the millions of dollars now flooding into campaign coffers.
We cannot afford Republican senators who unanimously blocked a disclosure requirement for contributions of $10,000 and more no matter how they are given to a campaign.
We cannot afford a presidential candidate who hides millions of dollars in offshore accounts.
We cannot afford a presidential candidate who dissembles about his employment at the company he owned.
We cannot afford a presidential candidate who implies he used time travel to retroactively resign from Bain.
We cannot afford a political party whose only goal is to defeat Obama and is completely unable to offer a solution to any serious problem we face in the economy, in employment, in education, in insurance reform, or in access to medical care. Even an incompetent and incoherent solution would be better than “Just saying ‘No.’”
Can our country afford such short-sighted candidates and office holders? Can you?
