Yes, the Gloucester Development Team proved to be the only bidder for the old Maplewood School. And yes, there are some i’s to be dotted and t’s to be crossed over the next 45 days before the nonprofit team and the city close the deal on the property.
But Mayor Carolyn Kirk’s acceptance of the Development Team’s $120,000 bid earlier this week marks a landmark step for, at long last, breathing new life into a building that’s been sitting as a neighborhood eyesore for far too long, and one that helps Gloucester’s housing market at the same time.
Congratulations go out to Development Team leader Kirk Noyes and his group, with best wishes for a successful and important project.
Let the building begin.
