---- — To the editor:
On Tuesday at 7 p.m., there will be a City Council meeting and public hearing on a proposed bicycle ordinance in Gloucester.
This is the culmination of more than a year of public outreach, meetings, bike rides and research, to make Gloucester more bike friendly. One of the anticipated outcomes is the introduction of bicycle lanes in designated areas of downtown, and signage to help cyclists avoid Grant Circle (by directing them through Stanwood Ave., Cherry Street or Poplar Street and on to Maplewood Avenue).
If you support cycling, or feel that these improvements will be beneficial to Gloucester, please come and share your opinion. You will have the opportunity to speak to city councilors about why you ride bikes, or why you don’t. You will be able to speak from your heart, or read from a prepared statement.
There are many reasons to ride a bike: health, recreation, fitness, competition, transportation.
Let’s speak up for better conditions, and support this critical step towards a bicycle friendly Gloucester.
