To the editor:
The voters and taxpayers of Rockport have an opportunity to choose a new town clerk after the retirement of Fred Frithsen, who served the town for 37 years.
John Arnold felt strongly enough about making sure you have that choice and voice that he has stepped up to run for this important position.
I am excited by the prospect of John Arnold representing us in the office that is considered the first and main point of contact in Rockport Town Hall. With a 30-plus year track record of successful management and strong customer service background outside of Town Hall, there is no doubt he will transfer those abilities to public service for you inside Town Hall.
His strong commitment, leadership and passion for Rockport will serve him well, but his integrity is the asset that will prove most beneficial. As a young selectman 35 years ago, he was an advocate for fair play and openness. I believe a level playing field for all residents is one of the best things we can offer in making sure local government functions in the best interest and collective good for all.
I admire John Arnold for not taking any contributions from special interest groups around the town, and taking the time to go door-to-door from downtown to the South End and Pigeon Cove, to give people a chance to be heard.
I and my family will cast our votes for John Arnold on May 8, and would urge you to please consider him as well.
