To the editor:
America doesn't need a different president.
Give the Democrats or the Republicans the reins; either way, this horse won't run straight and true. Swing a bit more to the liberal left or the conservative right — so what, the patient is too ill to be cured with baby aspirin.
Upscale the government or downsize the government, buckets to bail out the Titanic, she's going to the bottom anyway. Elect a messiah from Illinois or a rogue from Alaska, expect a miracle, neither they nor all the king's men can put Humpty Dumpty back together again. Organize pep rallies, call 'em Tea Party or State of the Union addresses, rah rah go team go, the scoreboard won't change, defeat is assured.
God is not blessing America. Spin and twist those five words I just composed to incriminate me. The matter with America is a moral matter — not political, not economic, not pork barrel, not militaristic, not judicial.
Moral failure is destroying the country with alacrity. The ruin is so deep and the wound so grave all the good intentions from here on out may prove to be in vain.
America may die. The period for recovery is shortening. It will soon be time to prepare a eulogy. The dream could draw its last breath in your lifetime. The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train named Wrath. Whose engineer is God.
The contempt the following words will evoke are evidence of the moral decline. These words will be met with accusation, hatred and disgust instead of repentance. And the certainty of that defines how fatal the situation is.
God's laws define goodness. His law is held in contempt by very, very, many, many in our land.
I believe God is not blessing America because of what I call the "Big Eight" — divorce, drugs, adultery, greed, fornication, violence, abortion and homosexuality.
A kaleidoscope is a tubular instrument rotated to produce successive symmetric designs by means of mirrors reflecting changing patterns made by bits of loose colored glass at the tube's end.
All these politicians, clergymen, generals, media muttonheads, local yokels saying that, if we just tweak this, adjust that, alter this, modify that, it'll all be swell like it was when Reagan, when Clinton, when Kennedy — or like when I was a little kid with my checkered cardboard kaleidoscope, always turning it a bit left, a shade right, expecting, always expecting the fuzziness to suddenly come into sharply defined color-filled order.
This is what people are expecting to happen day upon day in this country, not realizing their eyesight is defective, their vision impoverished by their awful morals.
"Without morals, a republic cannot subsist any length of time; they therefore who are decrying the Christian religion, whose morality is so sublime and pure ... are undermining the solid foundation of morals, the best security for the duration of free governments," said Charles Carroll, a signer of the Declaration of Independence.
When America is wheeled into the morgue of history and an autopsy is performed the cause of death will be discovered as multiple. America's death will be ruled a homicide.
She was murdered by her own people, poisoned by small then larger and bolder doses of immorality.
