Letter: Cruz doesn't deserve writer's ruthless attack

Gloucester Daily Times

---- — To the editor:

Ted Cruz was the first Hispanic solicitor general in Texas.

Ted Cruz was the first Hispanic elected U.S. senator from Texas.

Ted Cruz was partner in a law firm in which he led that firm’s U.S. Supreme Court and national appellate litigation practice.

Ted Cruz has been an associate deputy attorney general at the U.S. Department of Justice, and Ted Cruz was an adjunct professor of law at the University of Texas School of Law in Austin.

Ted Cruz graduated from Princeton cum laude.

At the age of only 42, Ted Cruz has already accomplished so many wonderful things. So Michael Cook’s letter about Ted Cruz (“Cruz’s posturing should be a wakeup call for all,” the Times, Monday, Sept, 23) was the most reprehensible, despicable, verbal attack imaginable.

As is always the case with Mr. Cook, if a person is opposed to same-sex marriage — as Ted Cruz is — Mr. Cook will subject them to a public tirade and warn folks how dangerous that person is — all while writing letter after letter about “tolerance.”

In this instance, Michael Cook warns us that Ted Cruz, if ever elected to higher office, will make America into something equivalent of Germany under Hitler’s Third Reich.

Thanks for the warning, Cook, but in the future, keep these ruthless tirades to yourself.
