Letter: Loneliness and Gloucester aging 'limpas'

To the editor:

I am writing regarding Gordon Baird’s Fishtown Local column, (the Times, Monday, Nov. 4).

Hey, Gordon, here’s one or two more things, you’ll find, if you’re watching, that we long haired, limpin’ ole men tend to do.

Do you grow facial hair to match your long hair to help keep in body warmth each winter? And do you check the “obits” page of the paper, to see if your name is there? Check to see if any of those sports buddies you watched the big game with, are listed? Or did they make another year, and another big game.

Being a member of that age group, I’d venture a guess that not one of those old “limpas” want to be alone — isolated, as you put it — but, are that way due to circumstances.

Perhaps a spouse has passed on, or children are grown and moved on.

Remember, in the end, it’s that obit page that gives each of us our 15 minutes of fame.
