Letter: Write-in candidate makes case for board seat

To the editor:

I am writing to provide more information on my background to the voters of Rockport for their consideration as a write-in candidate in the upcoming election for the Board of Selectmen on Tuesday, May 8.

I grew up in Gloucester, and have been a resident of Rockport since 1999. I received a B.S. in Political Science from Salem State College, and a J.D. from New England School of Law in Boston in 1993. I have maintained a private law practice in Rockport since 2002. My daughter is a graduate of Rockport High School, Class of 2009.

As an attorney with a strong background in municipal law, I am able to contribute my knowledge and experience to the Town of Rockport. My involvement with community affairs in Rockport includes committee membership on the Rockport Board of Appeals, where I have previously served as Zoning Administrator and as chairperson. I am also actively involved in the Rotary Club of Rockport, a community service organization, and serve on its Board of Directors. I have also served on the Board of Directors for the American Red Cross of Northeast Massachusetts.

I care deeply for our community and have been willing to contribute my time and expertise wherever they are needed. My professional skills and ability to work with others in a fair and equitable manner will help to address the needs and interests of all the residents of Rockport.

I will work diligently with the citizens to make decisions based on what is best for our Town. I will listen to the various concerns of our residents and will respect the contributions made by all. I look forward to working to preserve our quaint village while moving forward in a progressive manner.

Because I am a write-in candidate, a vote for me must be made by either obtaining a sticker from my supporters, who will be located near the polls on election day, or by writing my name and address directly on the ballot.

If you choose to write my name on the ballot, do not worry about spelling it correctly as your vote will count so long as it can reasonably be determined that you intended to vote for me, but please remember to place an "X" in the box where you have written my name and address.

It is would be a privilege to serve the town of Rockport as a selectman. Thank you for your consideration.
