Letter: Let's look at a marina for I-4, C-2 site

To the editor:

I am writing regarding 1-4, C-2 property.

It is unfortunate we do not have anyone interested in development of this site. After some thought, I believe the property would be ideal for a marina, just like communities in Florida.

Boaters could come in and out, call the marina and tell them what time you want to go into the water and what time you're coming back.

The Waterways Board had recommended a floating marina by the fish pier. If you read Ron Gilson's letters, you could see where there'd be a problem, especially to the fishing boats at the piers.

The City Council is trying to get the parcel out of the Designated Port Area rules, which do not allow recreational boating. But I believe all that the pleasure boats would have to do is apply for a license for stripers, and that would fit under the DPA's marine-related usage.

All I'm saying is: Let's put on our thinking caps! Perhaps readers within the city could give some input to help.
