If a 13-year-old boy ran up to you, asked for a ride, and said he was running away from what he called an abusive home, would you know what to do?
Thankfully, a local taxi driver did. His quick thinking and common sense should be a model for us all, when it comes to putting safety first.
The Lighthouse Taxi driver, identified as Joe Pollock, indeed came upon a young teen who got into the cab and told Pollock he was indeed running away from abuse at home. Pollock took the youth straight to the Gloucester police station — then remained there with the boy for some time while police heard the teen out and contacted the state's Department of Children and Families and otherwise addressed the situation.
Thanks, Joe. You made the right choice — and an important one at that. Congratulations on a job well done.
