To the editor:
During renewed liberal fervor for Barack Obama with his expression of support for same-sex marriage, I find myself again asking when everyone lost their rational moral center and became slaves to the political machine they all claim to hate?
Recently, five Afghan children were murdered by Obama's drone program. The incident got little mention in the media: cursory glances with almost no significant criticism.
President Obama has kept us in Afghanistan, and plans to keep Americans there through 2024, even though the majority of Americans now oppose the war. The troop surge and continued commitment was a political maneuver to purchase continued support of moderates and blue dogs. The blood of these children, civilians, and soldiers is on Obama's hands.
This is absolutely unconscionable and unacceptable, and that's hardly the only thing that "liberals" should be upset about.
Obama has cracked down on whistleblowers and medical marijuana users while vowing transparency and leniency. He signed the PATRIOT Act and the NDAA, codifying unconstitutional powers the government has been exercising for years.
Twenty-seven of the 35 articles of impeachment brought against George W. Bush apply to President Obama. These issues do not become OK because he's on "our team" nor for the decent things he has done.
Many claim to hate this two-party system, but every four years, like faithful old hounds, liberals and conservatives run back to their masters, for fear of "the other guy."
We can't kick the can down the road forever. We need to smash the political cartels controlling this country. Murder, spying, imperialism, and lies do not match the values that we assign to America.
The tyranny that Athens imposed on others, it eventually imposed on itself. We either join together for the soul of our nation, or it dies along with our morals and freedoms.
