To the editor:
I recently received a bill sent from Ohio regarding emergency trips to Addison Gilbert Hospital in Gloucester between from May and December — four trips.
I thought this might be some sort of scam. Who would be billing for the city of Gloucester?
So I called Gus Foote, but he knew nothing about it, so he gave me the name of a man in the mayor's office, and told me to talk to this man.
I asked this man if he was familiar with Poplar Park, and he was.
Well, I told him I had lived there for 18 years, and all the rides that the emergency crews — who were all wonderful — made only had to go from Poplar Park to Addison Gilbert Hospital. Basically, go around the corner, and you're there. But the bill for the four rides was almost $3,000!
Why? This is ridiculous.
We do not need any more fancy roads, new buildings along the waterfront for tourists who come once a year and leave. We do need good fire stations for our firefighters, police stations for our police, and decent shelters for our homeless. But we do seem to take better care of our animals than we do our fellow human beings.
Get real, Mayor Kirk, and get your priorities straight and in order. Better yet, do Gloucester a favor and retire.
