Letter: Hard lessons learned too late

To the editor:

It is well-intended that the Gloucester school district is taking steps to ensure that schools foster an atmosphere that teaches students to respect others, appreciate diversity, and model good citizenship (Times, news story, Saturday, May 5; editorial, Monday, May 7).

The Gloucester High School students involved in the Twitter "incident" will be required to participate in an extensive program that looks at diversity through personal and environmental awareness, skill building and practical activities.

It is a shame, however, that this multi-cultural, politically correct and costly program to teach children good manners will be 15, 16 or 17 too late.
