Letter: Treating gays as equals under commandments

To the editor:

I find it hard to understand why the "Religious Right" constantly wails about homosexuals who go about their lives doing their jobs, helping others and bothering no one, while many heterosexuals lie, steal, swear, commit adultery and murder, and this draws no comment that these deeds are against the Bible's teachings.

Is my memory failing, or is there no mention of abstaining from homosexuality in the Ten Commandments?

I do believe we were commanded to not curse, lie, steal, covet, kill or commit adultery; honor our fathers and mothers; and refrain from work on the Sabbath. Why does the Religious Right never rail against these very real sins which are committed every day.

Homosexuals have long been criticized for leading a "gay" single life. Now society wants to prevent them from marrying and leading a "normal" life.

Approximately one in 10 persons is homosexual; they were born that way, perhaps for a reason. Let's observe the Ten Commandments and treat homosexuals as the equals they are.
