Letter: A month's proclamation for December

Gloucester Daily Times

---- — To the editor:

OK. I’m penciling it in here on my calendar.

June was ‘gay pride’ month, by mayoral proclamation and the displaying of the Rainbow flag.

Now, October is ‘domestic abuse awareness & prevention’ month, again by proclamation of the mayor.

OK, where’s my red marker? I predict December will be “Yippee, Carolyn Kirk is no longer mayor” month, by my proclamation, to be celebrated by flying a flag at Grant Circle with the words, “Free at last, free at last, thank God Almighty, we are free at last!”

‘Safe sites’ are being set up throughout the community. If only it had happened a bit sooner. Mac Bell could have fled there after being publicly harassed by the mayor at her fund-raiser.

I think we also need to implement a series of “sucker sites” where folks can go who’ve been abused by the organization HAWC. Have you forgotten the six residents at HAWC’s shelter in Salem who retained an attorney to bring charges that they suffered a “climate of abuse” and retaliation at the hands of those running the shelter there?

In August, in Annisquam, we had the play “Chicago” performed. It’s about a couple of “celebrity criminals” – one who murdered her male lover and another who murdered her husband. The show made light of and glorified domestic violence. Two Rockport schoolteachers and a Gloucester city councilwoman participated in that play.

Sooo. Soon I’ll be heading off for a long stint on the Appalachian Trail. And then, most likely reside in another city far from here — away from the comic/tragic farce you’ve turned Gloucester into.

I’ve run out of patience being intellectually abused by the dull-witted, anti-Christian band of wackos I see as haunting this lovely Cape.
