To the editor:
An open letter to parents and guardians of current eighth-grade students:
Do you know about one of the best kept secrets in town?
It's something that exists right here in Gloucester, and has been around since 1939, and offers great opportunities for your children. It is the Gloucester Technical High School program at Gloucester High School.
Your child will have the chance to learn a trade while still receiving a first-class education.
We offer automotive technology, carpentry, machine shop, electrical shop, and child studies.
It's all right here, close to home. Your child doesn't need to leave friends. College prep classes are available along with playing sports, joining the band, taking photography; all this can happen while remaining in the community.
We have many outstanding graduates from our programs. Chances are very good that you have used someone from one of our programs. (For example, there are machinists at Varian and Gloucester Engineering.) Many of our graduates, in fact, own and operate their own businesses which are vital to the economy of Cape Ann.
Our shops are open to all Cape Ann students through school choice. Because our faculty are highly skilled tradesman themselves and our technology is growing, our students will learn a trade that they can take with them the rest of their lives.
Please feel free to come check us out; we are always proud to show what we have. We are up to the challenge to educate your children to the highest standards and look forward to doing so.
