To the editor:
“This is a spiritual experience — you people rock!” were the words of a woman standing by me at a local club upon hearing the band, The Bandit Kings, for the first time.
She was right, they do rock — and the music is so good that it transports you to another dimension, a blissful place of ecstatic, exuberant, pure joy. They were indeed bandit kings, for they have stolen our hearts with their celestial songs which allow us to slip the surly bonds of earth when they play.
The band was organized by Gloucester music master Dan King. It includes Dan on guitar, playing together with his extraordinarily talented and creative associates, Dennis Monagle on drums, Joe Cardoza on bass and songstresses Anne Marie Shimanosky and Renee Dupuis on vocals.
The majority of the songs they perform have been written by members of the group.
You can hear them this Saturday, July 20, at the Rhumbline for three full sets. They will also be playing at the Danvers Library park on Wednesday, July 24, at 6 p.m.
Be sure to bring the kids, they’ll have a great time dancing on the lawn and will experience a wonderful and important movement in our musical history.
