Editorial: Time for Rockport to get out and vote

Three weeks aqo, Rockport's contested elections didn't extend beyond runs for town clerk and the Board of Assessors.

Since then, an exchange of words involving the incumbent selectmen, and the entry of a write-in challenger for one of two selectmen's seats — complete with a fairly organized campaign and a bevy of campaign signs — has turned up the heat. The initiatives by write-in hopefuls for other offices have added more intrigue. And then there's the non-binding referendum question that asks town residents choosing a town clerk today whether they should be able to vote for that post at all in the future, or whether the clerk should be appointed.

If you live in Rockport, don't leave today's choices to your neighbors. The polls at Pigeon Cove Circle, St, Mary's Church and Rockport Elementary School — for Precincts 1, 2 and 3, respectively — are open until 8 p.m. Don't pass up your chance to help decide Rockport's future. Get out and vote.
