To the editor:
The Bible, both Testaments, is not so much a history book, as a spiritual guide.
“Scholars” throughout history have scrutinized every word, every interpretation of every translation, and every aspect of this collection of life lessons. Its contents over time have spiritually inspired and demonically condemned millions. It has been used and abused. Quoted to inspire saintly acts of supreme sacrifice and to justify deplorable atrocities. It has had an impact upon civilization as no other document. Much of it must be taken with a grain, or pillar of salt in order to comprehend its true meaning.
Christmas is, perhaps the greatest example of its metaphorical approach as a guide to life on Earth. Christmas is what’s inside of you, it’s what you feel. It’s the glow of a little child’s innocent smile, the warmth of an embrace, the hope that maybe, just for one day, we all have something in common: each other. Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, May peace and love dwell within your hearts and homes, isn’t that what religion’s all about?
Please enjoy my Christmas present to Gloucester, and the world, by going to YouTube, searching “Paul Cohan” and listening to “Christmas in Gloucester.” You’ll know what I mean!
