Letter: Bravo for Gloucester’s brave Chief Lane

Gloucester Daily Times

---- — To the editor:

We wish to express our gratitude to retiring Police Chief Michael Lane for his partnership and strong leadership helping all residents of Gloucester, youth and adults, to be safer and healthier.

Youth are safer as a result of his efforts to reduce alcohol and other drug use, and the collective community is better informed with the active participation of the Gloucester Police Department in community meetings.

The Gloucester Medications Disposal Program would not be possible without Chief Lane’s endorsement, and importantly, lives are being saved thanks to his collaboration and leadership to implement the use of nasal Narcan by all officers and ensure police representation on the Gloucester High Risk Task Force to help those most vulnerable in the city.

While so many people have a role advancing health and safety in Gloucester, Chief Lane, in his everyday actions, has shown how law enforcement can work with the community using heart and mind. All of Gloucester can be thankful to have had such a compassionate and dedicated public servant.

All the same, we are happy to welcome the new police chief, Leonard Campanello.
