To the editor:
When I was a young man, I lived through a very dreary period in U.S. history. We had runaway inflation along with mortgage rates approaching 20 percent. That president and his party gave away the Panama Canal and threw our allies “under the bus.” Our country was perceived as weak by even third-world countries and became vulnerable to radicals. Our military became underfunded and under appreciated to such a degree that it became very difficult to protect our own embassies or save our own captive citizens.
Our country was so ground down by the policies of the president of that time that the country had a misery index to measure it. Our nation had so little to be proud of that we became overwhelmingly ecstatic when our Olympic hockey team beat the greatly favored Soviet Union national team and ultimately win a gold medal. Yes, I am talking about the worst presidency I have ever lived through — that of President Jimmy Carter.
Unfortunately, our current president, Barack Hussein Obama, has become very competitive with Old Jimmy. This current administration cheats by removing the cost of food and fuel from the current cost of living equation to claim no inflation. Despite this fact, we all know that the cost of living has skyrocketed. I am sure that you are fully aware that our fuel cost has more than doubled and food prices are much higher. Carter had an unemployment rate of 7.5 percent, while the rate under Obama’s tenure has one over 8 percent. If we include the jobs lost during this current presidency along with the current existing jobs number or market, Obama’s unemployment numbers are actually over 10 percent. Carter increased taxes and regulations and ruined the economy. Obama has increased taxes and regulations even more, and ruined the economy even more.
