I would like to go on record as being in favor of the project to erect a new hotel on the waterfront in the city of Gloucester.
This letter of support comes from a maritime point of view that this new hotel will further help develop the cruise ship industry in the port.
A new hotel for arriving and departing passengers before and after their cruise is an essential component of a port in the passenger ship business. Our New England ports have become very popular destinations within the cruise ship industry and the city of Gloucester can have a bigger share in the economic impact of that popularity with a port development plan that includes a waterfront hotel.
Beyond the obvious advantage of an expanded tax base of a new hotel, cruise ship passengers bring dollars that will support other local business partners in the port.
Major cruise ship companies have proven that Gloucester can work as a port of call. Let's improve upon that record by supporting this new hotel development.
