To the editor:
It’s hard to believe we are already into the heart of August.
Does summer in Gloucester seem to fly by or is it our subconscious just wishing it would never end as we know winter will soon begin? Labor Day is just around the corner heralding the end of the “season,” but it is a wonderful weekend for Gloucester.
How lucky we are to be able to see a harbor filled with schooners, an echo from our past. This year, there will also be a lobster bake and music, as well, organized by the Schooner Festival Committee. Also, Ringo Tarr will again be putting on his music promoter hat and having a concert on Stacy Boulevard.
The Gloucester Fireworks Committee is hoping to cap the evening off with a brilliant fireworks display over Gloucester Harbor, but this can only happen with more help from the community.
We are still quite away from the amount needed to have fireworks on Aug. 31.
Please help us gather the balance needed and put on this annual display and add a great deal of sparkle to a wonderful weekend in Gloucester.
Donations can be made in care of the Gloucester Fund, 45 Middle St., Gloucester, MA 01930. Please note in memo line “Fireworks.”
