To the editor:
Every once in a while, a person appears at the last moment to offer his or her services to the town of Rockport.
This time, we were on track for a run-of-the-mill election with two selectmen running for re-election, unopposed. Then, a local disturbance came up that suggested that it might be time for a change.
Sandy Jacques has served Rockport well in all the years he has been on the Finance Committee and as selectman, but it looks like it is time for a new face on the Board of Selectmen.
Wilhelmina Sheedy-Moores, a local attorney, has all the qualifications to be an excellent selectwoman. She is an able lawyer, well-known in the community, a strong, active member of the Rockport Rotary Club, and has been an extremely capable participant in the Rockport Zoning Board of Appeals.
As a member of the Planning Board, I have had occasion to work with her often, and have found her to be able to listen to all sides of a case, and act intelligently and wisely.
I recommend that Rockport voters write in "Welhelmina Sheedy-Moores" for selectman on Tuesday, May 8.
