To the editor:
On Sunday, June 3, an event called "Kids Cancer Buzz-Off" was held at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough.
The purpose of this event was to raise funds to benefit Boston Children's Hospital and to aid families financially during their time spent away from home while their children undergo cancer treatments. The volunteer group raised over one half million dollars.
My wife Larraine and our daughters, Silvia Martin and Lori-ann Giamanco, were among many others who had their hair buzzed off. They chose to do this in memory of two family children who lost their lives to leukemia. Through their unselfish efforts, they were able to raise $3,800.
It is my opinion that the generous people of our city would have raised that amount substantially, had the event been publicized in our local newspaper. Efforts to have had that done were made, but nothing came of it.
I extend many thanks to the family, friends, businesses and kind citizens who donated to their cause. God bless.
