To the editor:
Earlier this summer, our U.S. Democratic representatives and senator spoke stridently about getting Dr. Lubchenco replaced as administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
When they approached the recalcitrant White House, the wimpy chorus seemed to changed their tune to a version of "I Shot the Sheriff."
Instead of challenging the failed fishing policy, they chose to challenge the thuggish enforcement of the failed fishing policy — for a much easier, chest-pounding sound bite but leaving no scar.
Lubchenco remains; the policy remains and grows more restrictive.
Now some of our Democratic leaders want to solve the failed policy with a boat buy out and with borrowed money. Talk about the gang who couldn't shoot straight.
To paraphrase Democratic strategist James Carvell, "It's the policy, stupid!"
Democrats have controlled the Congress for four years, the White House for two and Massachusetts for decades. Gloucester, the nation's oldest seaport, who's looking out for you? Our current Democrat leaders want to play nicey-nice while our fishing families suffer.
Vote the same; get the same.
That is why I'm hoping for change. I'm voting for Bill Hudak for our congressional representative.
