Letter: Taxpayer relief should come before $500k study

To the editor:

A question for the mayor:

What have you done to relieve the financial burden of the taxpayers in Gloucester?

We have:

Water and sewer rates going up 23 percent.

Property taxes are up, although properties have been devalued.

Fire stations closed.

Little or no maintenance of city owned buildings; the police station, Newell Stadium, and the Fuller School building come to mind.

Residents paying for their own rubbish removal, and we have to pay to use our own beaches.

Now, you want $500,000 for a study to see if the city needs to build a new school.

How about a plan for some financial relief for the Gloucester taxpayers?
