Letter: Grand story about a 'Grand Comeback'

To the editor:

How thrilling to read the uplifting, inspiring story headlined, "Grand comeback" about our resident musical genius Stephen Scotti in Jan. 21's paper.

That title could be used to describe Steve's life also, after his close brush with death not too many years ago. The photos of Steve, Rick Williams and the marvelous antique Victorian gift piano greatly enhanced the enjoyment of the story too. What an incredible happening to be able to rescue and bring back to life such a unique instrument, and to see the tale on the front page of our hometown paper just warmed my heart! It seems rare when such a wonderful report of good news ends up on the front-page of any newspaper.

Steve has been one of my heroes forever. I've always admired his wit and sense of humor, and I love attending his concerts and hearing him sing, tell stories (especially those of local people), recite poetry and, of course, play the piano so effortlessly and beautifully with his hands encased in white gloves! Can there be anyone else in the whole wide world who can perform such a feat? I doubt it!

And now, through your article, to learn of his kindness, patience and influence on his young friend was awesome. By recognizing Rick's enthusiasm and harnessing it by teaching him the restoration skills that enabled them to work together on the piano has opened up a whole new world of possibilities for him, I'm sure. That is so great!

We are fortunate, indeed, to have a man of Steven Scotti's caliber living among us on Cape Ann.

Rock on, Steve, and keep on playing on the Dogtown Common road. We never do know where life is going to take any of us, do we?
