Letter: Lynch works for the working person

To the editor:

I am supporting Stephen Lynch in the April 30 primary to elect a U.S. Senator.

He is my kind of guy. I had the pleasure of working with him when we both served in the State House. His focus was always on how to help the working person.

As a congressman, he is known for his tireless work for veterans. Stephen was able to cross party lines and build alliances that kept three veterans hospitals in eastern Massachusetts open. This has been a tremendous help to our veterans. He served on the Veterans Affairs Committee, sponsored legislation to increase nurse staffing and to allow private physician prescriptions to be filled at VA hospitals. He is presently working to reduce the backlog veterans are experiencing getting their disability compensation and other benefits, and he is co-sponsoring the Putting Veterans Funding First Act of 2013.

He has made 12 trips to Iraq, and 10 trips to Afghanistan and Pakistan. Part of the purpose of these visits was to ensure accountability in reconstruction projects in Afghanistan and to hear directly from the men and women serving our country.

By voting for Stephen on April 30, we will take the first step in sending a first-class person to represent us in Washington — a person who personally knows the struggles that our families face and who has a long record of taking stands that benefit them, not his political career. Let’s get Washington moving in the right direction. Please vote for Stephen Lynch on Tuesday.
