To the editor:
I am appalled, aghast, ashamed and apoplectic over the behavior of Rockport Selectman Wendell "Sandy" Jacques.
I was up all night last night, tossing and turning muttering the words, "Why don't you go back to the kitchen?" over and over again, soaking my pillow with tears of deep sorrow — wishing and wondering what I could do to remedy this grave injustice committed by a fellow male pilgrim in this world guilty of such a heinous crime against Selectmen Chairwoman Sarah Wilkinson.
I'm sure she faces months of therapy to recover from the psychological damage those eight words have done to her.
With morning's light a revelation came to me. I concluded some actions by others are such a danger to society they must be met by the swift and severe imposition of justice.
I suggest that a 75-foot high gallows be constructed on Dock Square. Perhaps the blokes at True Value Hardware could contribute the lumber and manpower free of charge to the town as a sort of vicarious act of repentance to all the females in Rockport, since Wendell refuses to grovel for his grievous misdeed.
Then, on July 4, a day of celebration about independence from ruthless oppressors, we can have a group of women with kitchen utensils lead Wendell "Sandy" Jacques to the gallows to be publicly hanged before the gathered throng of good decent holy people who've never said anything stupid in their lives and righteous noble self-controlled women who've never uttered a disparaging word about men in their lives.
And while the crowd chants "Go back to the kitchen, go back to the kitchen, go back to the kitchen," Sarah can pull the lever to release the trap door allowing "Sandy" to go on to his great reward.
I am Jewish. Since I was a kid, I've been subjected to anti-Semitic jokes and remarks — ruthless, heartless, calloused, inhumane jokes about the Holocaust and how cheap Jews are, etc.
In over 50 years of this ridicule, I've never once taken anyone to task over the matter.
These militant feminists are incapable of critical thinking. It is they who are dangerous to society — not Mr. Jacques. They are so fanatical, they think one statement spoken in frustration or anger defines a human being's entire personality and existence and life's accomplishments.
People who are pushing this issue are a heartbeat away from these becoming the Orwellian "Thought Police."
Why don't you get out of the kitchen and go to the library and study history and psychology and theology — and quit making such fools of yourselves?
