To the editor:
The Times' coverage of the tale of Stubby the Cat at Maritime Gloucester, the former Maritime Heritage Center, caught my eye (the Times, Saturday, Feb. 4).
When I was dockmaster at the center, my most important responsibility was to take Stubby to the vet for shots on schedule and make sure he got into Paul Harling's Diver Locker in the evening.
Mary Kay Taylor has kindly taken over my ride to the vet responsibilities since I left.
I have one quibble about your story. Stubby's tail is not "docked." Stubby is a Manx cat, from the Isle of Man in the Irish Sea, and they usually come with missing or severely reduced tails.
Here is a video where readers can go to learn more about Manx cat breeding: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQtfD_UEuE8
