Letter: The entertaining Tea Party political train

To the editor:

Well, the early 2016 “Right Wing Republican Road Show” and “Tea Party Troll Train” rolled into Iowa earlier this month, the weekend of August, 10 and, as one might expect, the entertainment value was exceptional.

“The Donald” — that’s Trump not Duck — tried to score points with the birther bozos who still believe Barack Obama should not be president because he, in their paranoid and conspiratorial delusions, was born in Kenya and, therefore, constitutionally ineligible to be the Commander in Chief.

Funny thing though; these same birther bozos gave the far right Texas Senator Ted Cruz a standing ovation and urged him to run for president, despite the fact he, unlike President Obama, really was born in another country — Canada to be exact.

Think about that. Barack Obama was born in Hawaii, but the birthers continue to insist he was born in a foreign country and is ineligible to be president. Yet they give standing ovations to a guy who really was born in a foreign country and have no problem with his pursuit of the presidency.

Hypocrisy or stupidity? I’d say it’s a lot of both.

The Canadian-born Cruz brought the right wing groupies in Ames to their feet with angry calls to repeal the Affordable Care Act, or shut the government down trying.

But the real star of the show was Cruz’s father. He also brought the right wingers to their feet with calls to defeat gay marriage because, after all, the efforts of gay Americans to attain marriage equality are all part of a socialist plot to “supplant God” and elevate government to a godlike status.

Then, of course, there was Rand Paul’s interview with Bloomberg News in which he was asked whom he would support to be the new chairman of the Federal Reserve.
